France Sees Hundreds of Arrests as PSG Celebration Unrest Erupts

(MENAFN) Authorities in France arrested more than 890 people following violent incidents that erupted during celebrations of Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League victory over Arsenal, according to reports citing the French Interior Minister.

Speaking to France Inter, Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said that police conducted over 890 arrests nationwide during a two-day period linked to the celebrations, as reported by broadcaster.

He added that the number of arrests marked an increase of more than 45% compared with the previous year’s figures.

Nunez also stated that 178 police officers and gendarmes were injured during the unrest.

As stated by reports citing the broadcaster, 312 of those detained were later placed in police custody for further investigation.
