France Launches USD80M Emergency Aid Plan

(MENAFN) The French government has rolled out a €70 million ($80 million) emergency support initiative aimed at protecting critical sectors from a “price volatility crisis” caused by the ongoing war in the Middle East.

According to officials, the package focuses on the transport, agriculture, and fishing industries, and is considered essential to safeguarding France’s "food sovereignty" while maintaining the stability of the national economy.

Under the plan, small and medium-sized road transport companies will receive €50 million in assistance, delivered as a flat-rate payment of €0.20 per liter. Farmers will benefit from a temporary exemption on taxes for agricultural diesel during the month, while the fishing sector has been allocated €5 million to help offset fuel costs, which currently represent about 35% of their operational expenses.

The government also highlighted additional support measures for struggling businesses, including the deferral of social security and tax obligations without penalties, as well as “Boost Fuels” loans of up to €50,000 for the smallest firms. These measures are set to remain in effect throughout April 2026.

The emergency package comes amid nearly a month of airstrikes carried out by the US and Israel against Iran, resulting in over 1,340 deaths, including the country’s then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US military bases, leading to casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions in global markets and aviation.
